What Is a Domal Section, and Which Hardware Fits It?

Why a Domal lock only fits a Domal window, how to identify the section you have, and what to send us if you are not sure.

What is a Domal section window?

Domal is a family of aluminium window profiles with its own cross-section, distinct from other sliding window systems. Hardware cut for a Domal section will not fit other profiles, and hardware for other profiles will not fit Domal.

Sections are not standardised

This is the thing most people do not realise until they are holding a part that will not fit.

Aluminium window profiles are not standardised the way plumbing fittings are. Different manufacturers extrude different cross-sections, and a lock, roller or channel designed for one will not seat properly in another.

Domal is one such profile family, and it is common enough in India that hardware is made specifically for it — hence "Domal lock" as a product name.

Why a Domal lock is its own item

A Domal lock (SA-17) is a mortise lock, meaning it sits into a recess cut in the section rather than mounting on the surface. That gives a flush appearance and a solid engagement.

Because it seats into the profile, the profile dimensions are part of the lock's design. A mortise lock for a different section will not fit the recess, and forcing it distorts either the lock or the frame.

Surface-mounted locks, like the crescent and Maruti patterns, are more forgiving because they screw to the face. But even those have to suit the meeting stile geometry to draw the sashes together properly.

Identifying what you have

Three things will tell us the section.

A photograph of the existing lock, ideally removed but in place is usually enough. Lock shape is a strong identifier.

A photograph of the meeting stile — the vertical section where the two panels overlap when closed — taken square on from inside.

A photograph of a cut end of the track or frame, if any is visible at the jamb. The cross-section is the definitive answer.

Any one of those usually settles it. All three together always do.

Why we ask for photographs rather than measurements

Measurements alone are frequently misleading. Two sections can share an overall width and differ in the internal geometry that determines whether a fitting seats.

A photograph shows the shape, and shape is what matters. It also takes you ten seconds and costs nothing, which is why it is the first thing we ask for.

Bring the old part if you can

If you are able to remove the failed lock, roller or latch and bring it to the counter in Bhaisthan, matching it by hand takes a minute and removes all doubt. This is the single most reliable way to get the right part first time.

For anyone outside Raipur, WhatsApp is the practical equivalent.

Other named sections

Domal is not the only profile family you will encounter. Older housing stock in Chhattisgarh includes sections from fabricators who are no longer trading, and newer builds use whatever system the fabricator prefers.

We hold hardware across the common families. Where an item genuinely is not available for an unusual section, we will tell you that rather than sell you something that nearly fits — a lock that almost seats will fail, and it will fail after you have cut the recess for it.
